Class Descriptions

Beginning Hatha

These classes are for students with little or no experience or for those who wish to continue with a basic yoga practice.  These classes will include simple movements to stretch and warm-up the body.  An introduction to the beginning asanas (postures) as well as simple pranayama (breath control) will be taught.  This class is also suitable for pre-natal students.  Modifications will be encouraged to adapt to individual body needs.

Intermediate Hatha

These classes are for students with a familiarity of the basic yoga poses and for those who are looking to expand their knowledge of asanas and pranayama.

Experienced Hatha

These students show an understanding of the yoga poses and pranayama and have become curious to understand what is meant by the “pose behind the pose”.  These classes give the student the opportunity to move deeper into their individual yoga practice.

Beginning / Intermediate Hatha Flow

The intention of this class is to enjoy yoga flows or sequences, with attention placed on adapting and exploring aspects of poses to make them suitable, safe and beneficial for every body. Emphasis is placed on honouring personal abilities as well as challenges. Breathing patterns and techniques round out the classes. A great class for beginning or intermediate students looking to personalize their yoga experience.

Yoga and Mindfulness

This is the perfect class after a busy day.  A yoga class with a slower pace paying mindful attention to the whispers and communication of the body through each movement and breath.  Time will be spent releasing any holding and tension in the body through simple movement and classic asanas followed by a pranayama practice, a sitting meditation or a restorative shivasana.  This class will be appropriate for all levels of students.

Slow & Mindful Movement
This class will be a guided meditation using slow and gentle movement while focusing our awareness on the changing sensations in the body and the subtleties of the breath as we move.  This class is available to beginning students and those who wish to explore mindfulness through movement.

Restorative Yoga

This restorative yoga class will focus on relaxing the body in postures supported by the use of props and blankets to allow the body opportunity to rest, renew and to heal.  Long periods of time is given in each pose so to allow each student to move deep into their own personal inner space.  A perfect class for everybody, especially those dealing with chronic stress, fatigue or recovering from illness, injury or significant life changes.

Gentle Yoga

This safe and slower-moving class is designed for students of all ages dealing with physical challenges, recovering from injuries, or for those who enjoy a slower moving practice.  Moving gently, we work to increase flexibility in the shoulders, back, hips and legs, to increase arm and overall body strength, and to develop better balance and breath awareness.   At the end of each class, we spend some time quieting the mind to reduce anxiety and stress, so that students leave the class relaxed and refreshed.

Breathe, Stretch and Restore

This class is slow and deeply nurturing. Gentle stretching with a focus on linking movement with the breath and guided breath work create a sense of calm and relaxation.  Students will explore some basic yoga poses and have the opportunity to rest deeply in a restorative pose before savasana.  For beginning or experienced students this class will nourish on all levels of mind, body and spirit. The class is suitable for pre natal students.

Therapeutic Yoga Group Classes

These specialized classes will focus on building balanced bodies, gaining stability and movement in joints, and will encourage a better mind/body connection through using the tools of somatic mindfulness.  As a result, we hope each student will learn how it feels to move in a body with less pain and with more ease.  All levels of students are welcome.  No yoga experience required.

Yoga For Anxiety

A 4 week series designed to help participants create and strengthen a set of skills to manage the daily effects of chronic stress and anxiety.  These classes will include gentle yoga, breathing and mindfulness techniques and calming restorative poses.  New students are welcome.

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a quiet, mindful  practice suitable for students of all levels of experience.  The poses are seated, supine or prone and are held with the help of props for several minutes.  The poses are held with muscles relaxed. This passive approach allows time to gently stretch the dense connective tissues of the lower body (low back, hips, pelvis, hamstrings) which become stiff as we age or if we lead a very active life style.  In each class there is  focus on the breath, slowing down, letting go of tension and being present in the moment.

Pilates classes promote strength and balanced muscle development while integrating flexibility and increased range of motion.  Attention to your breath, core activation and full body awareness make Pilates a great foundation for any kind of movement that you do.

Yoga & Pilates Blend

This class will bring together the relaxation and stretching of Hatha yoga with the strengthening exercises of Pilates mat work.

MELT Class
This all-levels will class will use specialized soft body rollers and small MELT hand and foot balls to simulate the results of manual therapy.  Learn simple self-treatments you can do at home to remain active, healthy and fluid.
