November & December 2016

8th Holiday PJ Drive for the Halton Children’s Aid Foundation

Let your inner elf out and help us collect and donate brand new cozy pj’s for the children in the care of the Children’s Aid Foundation.  We will be collecting new pj’s in all sizes (sizes to fit 10 -18 year olds are needed the most). Organize your hockey team, school class, book club or collect pj’s at your holiday cocktail parties!

Each year the CAS expects my LARGE delivery of pj’s just in time for Christmas.  These pj’s are used year round in the welcome packages delivered to each child.  They are greatly needed and appreciated!  Contact Robyn  (robyn@creatingspaceyoga.ca) if you would like to be an elf in your community.

We will be collecting pj’s at Creating Space Yoga studio for the month of November and up till December 17th.

 

September 2016

Lunch Box Food Drive!

For the month of September, we will be accepting non-perishable lunch box food items for our local food banks.  Providing healthy lunches for school age children should not be a stress for the families in our community.  Unfortunately for many, it is.  We hope to help by creating a month long back to school lunch box food drive for the children in our community who need a little extra support.

Some lunch box suggestions… juice boxes, tortilla wraps, granola bars, pudding cups, crackers, peanut butter, tuna fish, fruit cups, dried fruit, apple sauce and anything else you can dream up and find!

Another great idea are gift cards from our local grocery stores!!!

Thank you!  I had the joy of delivering 6 large bag of groceries to the local food bank.  I know that your efforts will be appreciated!!

Yoga for Teens

We will gladly collect your gently used or brand new yoga mats to help the Children’s Aid Foundation start up a new Yoga for Teens program.  We will accept mats till Thursday, August 18, 2016.

Thank you for your support…these teens deserve it!!

Awesome…we collected 10 yoga mats and the CAFH was able to start up an after school yoga class!  Thanks so much for your mat donations!!!!

Therapeutic Yoga for Seniors – Charitable class to support the Arthritis Society.

Please join us for our new 6 week class series dedicated to creating a therapeutic yoga practice for seniors.  100% of the class fees for the first class will be donated to our local Arthritis chapter.  Please reserve your spot in this unique class and learn how to move with more fluidity and ease!

CSY Book Drive and Exchange for the Oakville Literacy Council

April 7 – April 25, 2015

The time is finally here to clear out your dark closets and begin the spring purge.  We will be holding our used book drive and exchange again for a few weeks this spring.  We will accept gently used fiction and non-fiction, including books for adults, teens, and children. (No textbooks, travel books or magazines please.)  As we have enjoyed in past years, if you donate a book you are welcome to take a book that interests you in the pile.  Please don’t take a book unless you have donated a book.  If you have boxes of books for donation, please ask Robyn where you can make your delivery directly.

All of the books collected will be donated to the Oakville Literacy Council’s annual Used Book Sale that takes place in early May.

CSY Book Club Gathering Supporting Because I Am A Girl

The CSY Book Club met on Tuesday, February 3rd to discuss our thoughts, impressions and reviews of the books “The Dovekeepers” and “Year of Wonders”.   As usual, when we gather we are happy to collect donations for an organization that shares a theme with the books we read.  We are thrilled to pass along $170 to the fantastic Because I Am A Girl organization.  It felt great to celebrate strong and powerful women!

Walking the Labyrinth : An Evening of Walking, Meditation and Healing to support Wellspring Birmingham Gilgan House

We are grateful to have the opportunity to offer a unique experience of a walking meditation on a labyrinth.  Join us for this evening of reflection, hope, movement and stillness.  This Labyrinth Walking experience will be guided by Labyrinth facilitator Belinda Beer.  In lieu of fees, we will collect donations for the Wellspring Birmingham Gilgan House.  An amazing organization who meet the needs of people coping with cancer in Oakville, Mississauga and surrounding areas.

Thank you for the memorable evening.  The studio has never looked more beautiful.  With the flickering of candle light and the soft padding of feet walking slowly and mindfully through the labyrinth, the night was inspiring and uplifting.   Thank you to Belinda for guiding us through the labyrinth experience.  Thank you to everyone who donated to Wellspring Birmingham Gilgan House…together we raised $320!

We will be offering a monthly labyrinth was at the studio on Wednesday evenings.  Join us for an evening of quiet contemplation to enhance your mindful movement practice.

THANK YOU!!!!  We had an incredible response this year from our CSY Community and beyond.  This was our largest collection of pj’s yet!  Thanks to the contributions of Burloak Canoe Club, Grace Academy of Performing Arts, Balletomane and our amazing CSY Community…together we gathered over 250 pairs of cozy pj’s for the children in the care of the CAS!!!  Many of the pj’s were delivered to the kids at their annual Christmas party.  Thank you for allowing this to be a annual event!

Ever wonder what these Nia classes are all about?  A blending of dance, martial arts and yoga, these unique classes are something to experience.  Try this charitable class and explore the possibilities that Nia has to offer.

Join us on Wednesday, September 10th @ 6pm – 7pm.
In lieu of class fees, we will gladly accept donations for the Oakville Humane Society

Come move, dance and explore this sensational body, mind, emotion and spirited fitness practice called Nia.  Class will be led by Leslie McHugh.  Please RSVP if you will be joining us.

This will be the first CSY Book Club gathering of the fall.  The books that we will be reading and discussing will be A Tale For The Time Being by Ruth Ozeki and The Language Of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh.

Spring Charitable Class for the Canadian Cancer Society

Join Natalie for a Gentle Hatha Yoga Flow to support the Halton chapter of the Cancer Society.   This class will be a gentle hatha practice inspired by the Kripalu yoga tradition.  A  soothing class focused on physical postures, breathing techniques and ending with a deep relaxation.  This class is suitable for beginning as well as experienced students who enjoy a gentler practice.

CSY Book Club supporting The Toronto Covenant House

We have discovered that the CSY Community is full of readers and book lovers.  It made simple sense to start a CSY Book Club!  Our first gathering will be on Monday, February 24, 2014.  The books that we will be reading and discussing will be And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini and Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline.

On the night of the gathering, we will be accepting donations for the Covenant House in Toronto.

Pilates Workshop with Nancy Botting

To attend the pilates classes at CSY it is required that you attend one of the complimentary workshops to ensure that you have the basics before joining a pilates ongoing class. For those with an ongoing pilates background, we ask that you also attend one of these workshops so that you understand how Nancy will be approaching the pilates method. IF you have attended the CSY Pilates classes in past sessions, it is not required that you attend this workshop again. (Although you must register for the Pilates classes if you wish to attend this winter.)

Food donations for our local food bank will be accepted in lieu of workshop fees.

“Restoring Hope & Healing” – A charitable restorative yoga class in memory of Robyn Pascaris

“As one person I cannot change the world, but I can change the world of one person”   ~Paul Shane

This charitable class is offered as a result of a personal battle that was fought with courageous grace in my family. Sadly, our dear cousin who had been fighting for her life the past five years against a very aggressive form of cancer called Angiosarcoma, passed away on October 22, 2013. Please join me for a night of restoring and to send healing energy to all of those who still continue to fight!

We will accept donations with gratitude and in Robyn’s memory and pass them on to Angiosarcoma Awareness.

The Mindful Brain : An Introduction to the Mindfulness Lectures

This season opener will be a charitable lecture and discussion board dedicated to introducing mindfulness to our community, as well as raising funds and awareness for the ILC, a local organization supporting children living with chronic pain.

We will gladly be accepting donations for the ILC Foundation.
