As you know, childhood and adolescence can be a difficult time for a vast array of reasons, yet there is often a commonality in the challenges they face that may be viewed through the lens of mindfulness. Children and Teens can have difficulties in some key areas; perceptions and appraisals of stress, emotion-regulation, meta-cognitions, feelings of being out of or lacking control, attachment or pushing away pain and suffering, and attention and focus. Research has demonstrated that mindfulness has the potential to shift and improve these areas in a teen or child’s life and as a natural outcome improve one’s quality of living.
These classes can be such a rich experience for your child. Previous groups have had kids leaving as friends with a shared interest in understanding themselves better. The underlying principles of these programs are based on the work of Jon Kabat Zinn’s Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, the work of Gina Biegel who researched and created an adapted Teen version, as well as using the curriculum content from the Mindful Schools program and Mindful Education with Daniel Rechtshaffen where Jennifer has trained.
We work on both formal and informal practices of Mindfulness. The formal practices are short in duration in order to accommodate the attention span of children and we use language, references, games, sound and stories that are relevant to them.

6 students group sessions – one hour long, 1 parent session included – 90 minutes long
