Monica Marquis BSc Health Education, Medical Qigong Practitioner, Aquatic Fitness Enthusiast
Monica is a health promotion specialist focused on promoting movement to maintain or improve physical and mental health. Her passions are aquatic fitness, Qigong and Watsu. Monica first became interested in Qigong at a Watsu workshop 25 years ago. Monica has a personal goal to celebrate her 100th birthday in excellent health.
In order to reach her goal, she needed to figure out how to manage stress and to find movement modalities that are kind to the body. Monica explored Feldenkrais, Yoga, Pilates, Watsu, weight training, aerobics, aquatic fitness, aquatic therapy, meditation, Tai Chi and Qigong. Qigong and aquatic fitness are the movement modalities that resonate with Monica.
Qigong is a branch of traditional Chinese medicine. It is the grandmother of Tai Chi and practiced all over the world for health and longevity. Monica describes it as “dynamic meditation”. There are many styles of Qigong. Monica teaches a set of movements called the 18 Luohan Hands and the 5 Yin Organ routine.
