The Mountains are calling and I must go." ~ John Muir
Adventures usually start with an idea that either grows or dies. This time my crazy idea of thru-hiking the John Muir Trail (JMT), in the California Sierra Nevada Mountains has evolved and brought me to this exact moment. The week has finally arrived and my adventure is just ahead. For many, many months, I have been dreaming, planning, organizing and training for the adventure of a lifetime. With the months of research behind me, I am now appreciating the many "trail angels" who have helped me realize my dream. I am ready to leave for my journey into the mountains. My husband and I will be hiking over 211 miles that extend from Yosemite Valley to the top of Mt. Whitney (the tallest peak in the lower 48 states), over 7 mountain passes and just over 14,500 ft in elevation. We will be silenced by the beauty of pristine nature, and we will learn to honour and respect the grandeur of the mountains.
"When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe." ~ John Muir
While walking through the mountains, I know that my thoughts will return often to the CSY community and my family that I will leave at home. I will feel you rooting me along (when my feet no longer want to take another step), or when the stars in the skies bring me to tears and connect me to my loved ones.
I look forward to sharing some photos and stories with you when we return home in August.
In the meantime, I am grateful to the wonderful teachers at CSY for teaching the July classes and working with the many private students. You are all in good hands with these amazing ladies!
Let your practice flourish this summer and see you in August!
