CSY Book Club – A New Community
We were excited to put together a book list, choose charities to match each book selection and then finally present the idea of a new CSY Book Club to our studio community. The book club idea was received with enthusiasm and excitement. Everyone thought it was a great idea and then the voting started.
We selected five pairs of books. Everyone who wished had the opportunity to vote for a pairing (and the charity that was matched). Voting was open for a month. Finally, the votes were counted and the book selections for our first CSY Book Club are… And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini and Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline. The charity that we will be contributing to will be the Covenant House Toronto.
We are always looking at ways to create deeper layers of community at CSY. We hope that the book club will welcome new people into our community and also serve as a meeting place for our students who practice at CSY but attend different classes on different days. This club will be open to the students in our CSY community and we will also welcome their friends. No yoga experience is necessary!
We plan to have one Book Club meeting in the Winter and one in the Spring term, both hosted by one of our teachers, Cheryl Smith.
Staying true to the community, the book club will collect no fees but will gladly accept donations at each meeting for the local or global charity paired with the book selection. Minimum donations of $20 or “donate what you can” are suggested and accepted with gratitude.
The meetings will be informal; so please bring a mug and some baked goods if you wish to enjoy and share. We will supply warm tea and a place to gather.
We will meet at the studio on Monday, February 24, 2014. The meeting will begin at 7:30pm.
Please RSVP if you plan on joining us. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you!
