Building a new habit requires significant effort, but the challenge is not only achievable but sometimes it’s necessary. Initiating a new habit presents a dual challenge: not only are we integrating a fresh set of behaviours, but we are also detaching from previously ingrained patterns. Essentially, this process entails rewiring our brains!
My home practice started simply. I rolled out my yoga mat and explored some of the poses and ideas that I had learned in class. I explored sitting still in meditation and pranayama. It was challenging to stay committed, but it was essential to a nourishing practice.
As you know, last year I decided that it was time for me to close the studio portion of Creating Space. After 15 years and then finally getting through the difficult and exhausting pandemic years, I knew it was time for me to step away from the responsibility of running the physical studio space.
I love this book. I love the commitment that she and her family made to a year of seasonal eating.
We all know the importance of physical fitness and how it impacts our health. During the pandemic, most of us valued the importance of getting outside for simple walks and staying active. When we are physically fit, we enjoy the ability to live, move and play with a level of freedom and endurance that feeds both the body and the mind.
It will be six months since we closed our studio doors to help fight the further spread of COVID-19. At the time, I honestly was looking forward to a few weeks off. I fully expected to be open again for the spring session. Nobody could have predicted what would follow in the months ahead.
When we closed in March, I had no idea that we would still not be open this summer! For months, we have been anticipating the re-opening of businesses across Canada. I think it is safe to say, that most of us are relieved to see the slow opening across Ontario (especially of hair salons) but, we have yet to hear any news of the re-opening of yoga studios and gyms.
Welcome! We appreciate our CSY Community so deeply and we hope that you will find our studio a warm and inviting place to practice. Here is what you can expect.
We have counted the votes and the spring selections have been chosen. We are excited to announce the spring selections for the upcoming CSY Book Club!
The votes were counted and the books and charity (The Covenant House Toronto) were chosen. We read and then we gathered. I was very excited to meet for the first time with the new group that was emerging at Creating Space Yoga studio.
The winter book club gathering was a success and we look forward to moving into the spring with an evolving group and another list of books from which to choose.
We were excited to put together a book list, choose charities to match each book selection and then to finally present the idea of a new CSY Book Club to our studio community.
Every Spring the CSY Community pulls together and enjoys a book donation/exchange for a couple of weeks at the studio. All of the used books collected are donated to the Oakville Literacy Council for their annual Used Book sale. Each year we are overwhelmed with donations and the enthusiasm for books in our yoga community. Obviously, there are a lot of keen readers among our yoga students!
A strong focus at Creating Space Yoga Studio is the encouragement of community and "doing our part and giving back". Although our students do come to CSY to practice their yoga and to discover new things about their own body and self; another consistent theme in the intentions of our practices also rests in the desire to reach out into our community to connect and help in small and big ways.
A long and active life involves making modifications.
Age is going to happen to those of us fortunate enough to experience it. Aging with grace, for me involves considering "What do I have to do today to keep me in better shape than yesterday?"
"Your walking class is giving me a wonderful opportunity to learn how to move into the “cardio zone” properly, without the usual joint strain and bouncing around that comes from running.
